Poppi Shelton Welborn

North Wilkes High School Alumni
Poppi Shelton Welborn

Q: Year graduated from North Wilkes:
A: 1996

Q: List any education/degrees beyond high school:
A: BS in Human Service Counseling from Gardner-Webb University

Q: List Professional/Career Experience and why you chose your career path:
A: I am currently the K4 teacher at Millers Creek Christian School. Teaching is one of the greatest joys of my life. A child's introduction to education is critical for future success. I love for my students to learn and feel very successful.

Q: If you could go back and give yourself advice as a high school student, what advice would you give and why. What advice would you give to high school students today?
A: If I could go back and speak to my former self I would use the words of Cinderella, "Have courage and be kind." Speak the truth in love!

Q: How has your NWHS education and experiences positively impacted your life?
A: Being a Viking was a big deal to me, no matter what my teenage self ever said. I was so proud to wear Viking colors and cheer for my team, no matter the outcome. I will never forget the excitement at school and ballgames when the Vikings would take on our rivals, The West Wilkes Blackhawks (sorry to all my adult WWHS friends). The Blackhawk funeral procession was the best! That was school spirit!

Q: Any additional information about family, career…you would like to share?
A: All of the roads I have taken brought me to my husband, Ray, and my two sons, Bryson and Brenyn. I will always be grateful for my life as a Viking because it made me the person I am today. As I look back on my time at North, I am thankful for every day...even the hardest days...because they made the trip so much more interesting!
