Class of 2022
Mrs. Diane Brown is a 1975 graduate of North Wilkes High School, and the mother of two children who are also North Wilkes alumni. Mrs. Brown has served for over twenty years as a substitute teacher here at North Wilkes, a position in which she continues to serve to this day. Mrs. Brown has also been a member of the school Booster Club, and for several years served as vice-president of that organization. Mrs. Brown also serves as president of the Mountain View Ruritan Club, a chaplain of the Wilkes Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary, and is a member of Dehart Baptist Church. Of Mrs. Brown, current North Wilkes teacher Sarah Miles said, “Diane Brown has been, and continues to be, one of the most sought after women of North Wilkes High School because she is committed to our school and community. She is the substitute teacher that every teacher wants and every student respects. She tirelessly gives to the teachers, students, and the Mountain View community because she loves the people. I honestly can't imagine surviving the past few years without her smile and dedication.” .
Mrs. Pam Greene was an employee at North Wilkes High School from January of 1986 to August of 2016. Mrs. Greene worked for ten years as a SIMS operator, receptionist, and student insurance coordinator, and for 20 years as a bookkeeper and payroll coordinator. Mrs. Greene was a member of the Wilkes County Schools chapter of the North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals during her career. While an employee at North Wilkes, Mrs. Greene was one of two people who were instrumental in implementing the innovative Student Information Management System, or SIMS, into the school system, under the supervision of L.C. Broyhill. This involved keying in student information into a computer-wide database, and thus eliminating the old system of hand-kept student records with an easily-accessible, cutting edge computerized model. Mrs. Greene is currently a member of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro, and loves spending her free time with her family, which includes her husband Mike, two daughters, Ashely and Kayla, who graduated from North Wilkes High School and her sweet granddaughter Julia..
Ms. Caroline Lovette taught physical education and health education for 12 years at North Wilkes. Ms. Lovette also coached J.V. and Varsity volleyball, J.V. and Varsity girls’ basketball, and Varsity boys’ basketball. Near the end of her tenure at North Wilkes, Ms. Lovette also assumed Athletic Director duties. Ms. Lovette was a four-time Coach of the Year for girls’ basketball, and enjoyed several 20-win seasons during her stint. Ms. Lovette was also at the time only the second female in North Carolina to be named a boys’ Varsity basketball coach. After leaving North Wilkes, Ms. Lovette went on to become an assistant principal, a principal for the Hickory Public Schools system, and a District Instructional Specialist for Hickory Public Schools. Ms. Lovette has also been awarded the Homer S. Thompson Eight Who Make a Difference award, given by the North Carolina High School Athletics Association to individuals committed to sportsmanship, leadership, and a positive approach to coaching, and the Wells Fargo Principal of the Year in 2017. Ms. Lovette also served as a national consultant for Magnet Schools of America following her retirement from the public school system, and created Project Energetic Wisdom in Alexander County, an initiative that partnered athletes with residents of local nursing homes for emotional support.
Mr. Scott Wood graduated from North Wilkes High School in 1991 after participating on a variety of athletic teams, including football, wrestling, basketball, and baseball. At North Wilkes, Mr. Wood was named to all-conference teams in wrestling and basketball numerous times, and was awarded the Viking Award his senior year. Mr. Wood graduated from Catawba College after playing football for the Indians for five years, where he was twice named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Conference team. Mr. Wood was also a teacher and coach at North Wilkes High School from 1998 to 2001, and has been a teacher and coach at Elkin High School since 2001. Mr. Wood has coached varsity football, girls’ track, and boys’ track, and the school shooting team, and has helped coach team and individual state championships in football, track, and with the shooting squad. Mr. Wood has been named Coach of the Year in both football and track, and was named Elkin High School Teacher of the Year in 2021. Mr. Wood was also named as a coach for the North Carolina East-West All-Star football game, and was honored with a Lowe’s North Carolina High School Athletic Association Campus Captain award in 2021.
