The school and community is dedicated to a long tradition of excellence in academics, attitude and athletics. If there is an academic award the community takes pride in that. If there's an athletic success they take pride in that as well. North Wilkes High School is a unique School in my opinion. It has the the comforts of a rural community but we have such a wide diverse group of students here. They all like come together to make class feel more like a family. There's a lot of good people here and they'll do anything they can to help you. Teaching our students to succeed in all of their endeavors is a top priority here. We want students to understand that failure is a part of the process. You don't always get it right the first time but we want to instill that work ethic that students are willing to have a minor setback but willing to work through that setback and that success is what happens at the end. Most of my teachers now are preparing us for colleges and what kind of stuff we can expect when we get there. Another good idea, another tidbit is that your ACT score could get you scholarships. Mrs. Miles is one of our English teachers. She teaches creative writing, she teaches English two, does an ACT prep course. We want students to not only be ready for a test, but also for their futures so a lot of the skills that they're gaining is strategically thinking about what is this question asking me, what is what is my ultimate goal here, what do I want to accomplish. There are harder classes and some of the teachers are really focused on trying to get you to go to the next step. Everyone understands the important role agriculture plays in this community. That why the ag department is second to none. In today's world I think we have to be able to give them skills that they don't have to go to college to go get and when they get out of high school it's good to have the skills that will feed them or help them feed themselves. Two percent of the population is farmers and they help feed this country. That's not a very small percentage for someone that does such a big job. And when it comes to extracurricular activities there's something for everyone. We have an awesome sports program. We have a new winter track program, which I'm personally excited about as a former runner. We have an amazing band, choral program. We also have a lot of clubs available to students.
