NWHS Driver's Education Schedule - Fall 2026

NWHS Class Information

Instructors:  Lloyd Walker and Travis Steelman

 

Class Location:  North Wilkes High School (gym basement classroom beside the weight room; entry will be from the front)

 

Drop-off/Pickup:  Student drop-off and pickup will be outside the gym basement

 

Materials:  Students will need a notebook and a pen or pencil for class notes

 

Snacks:  Students will be allowed to bring snacks and liquid refreshments as long as they are responsible for properly disposing of refuse

 

Class Dates:  October 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 26, 27, 28 (Make-Up Day)

 

Class Times:  After school on Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 6:00 PM

    • Wednesday, October 28th will be the make-up day for any student who missed one day.
    • Students are allowed only one absence and must attend the make-up day to complete the required classroom instruction.
    • The State of North Carolina requires 30 hours of classroom instruction.

 

*Dates are always subject to change due to unforeseen events.

 

  • If school is closed or dismissed early due to weather, driver education is also canceled.
  • Class size will be limited, and priority will be given to the older students.
  • An additional class may be created if needed.
 

Registration:  Driver's Education Enrollment Forms can be picked up in the front office or downloaded from the district website. Registration, along with the $65 fee, should be returned to the main office or online at School Cash Online by Thursday, October 1, 2026. Payment must be made before the beginning of class. There will be no exceptions. Please make checks payable to North Wilkes High School or bring exact cash. Students should plan to attend the first day of class and all other days, unless otherwise notified.

 

NOTE: Any student who registered for a previous class and did not attend must register again if they wish to enroll in this class. If payment was made, it will carry over to this class.

Additional Information and Requirements

  • State law requires that students be 14½ years old by the first day of class.
  • The classes are open to all public school students, homeschooled students, and private school students.
  • The registration form must be returned to the school's main office. Be sure to include the student's school email address, student ID number, and a cell phone number for both the student and a parent on the form. Homeschool students will also need a valid email address. It is very important that all information is legible and accurate.
  • The course is 30 hours long, and students are required to attend every day. Students may miss one class session for any reason but must attend the make-up day in order to complete the required classroom instruction. Students must attend 15 of 16 sessions, and there are no exceptions. The State of North Carolina requires 30 hours of classroom instruction.
  • Class fees are $65. Please make checks payable to North Wilkes High School or bring exact cash.
  • Please print and complete the Driver's Education Enrollment Form (or pick one up in the school office).
