Principal - Ms. Dee Surgeon

Mrs. Dee Surgeon

It is with great pleasure that I serve as the Principal of North Wilkes High School.  As a former alumnus of North Wilkes, I take a lot of pride in working with our students, staff, and community to ensure every Viking is successful.  Our mission at North Wilkes, is Vikings strive for excellence, exceed expectations, and lead by example.  This embodies what our students and staff work toward each and every day.  Our staff is composed of caring individuals who go above and beyond to meet every student's needs.  North Wilkes High School is a great place to work and learn.

A little about me, I’m a 1998 graduate of North Wilkes High School.  I attended WCC for two years and transferred to UNC Greensboro where I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science.  I then took my first teaching position at North Wilkes Middle School and taught Physical Education there for 13 years.  During that time I coached and served as Athletic Director for 8 years.  My graduate degree is from Appalachian State University in Middle Grades Education and an additional certificate in School Leadership.  I served as Assistant Principal at C.C. Wright Elementary for two years and at North Wilkes High School for three years before becoming the Principal.  I’ve grown up in the North community and served all but two of my professional years here.  I love where I work and enjoy serving my community.

It is a privilege to introduce myself as the Assistant Principal of North Wilkes High School. It is an honor to serve as a school leader in the North Wilkes district, and I look forward to contributing to the growth and success of students in our community. As a former high school teacher and native of Yadkin County, it is nice to be home.

I am a graduate of Appalachian State University and have served as both a middle school administrator and high school social studies teacher. Most recently, I served as an assistant principal at North Wilkes Middle School and in Stokes County, but I found myself homesick for Wilkes County. I am eager to bring my knowledge and understanding of education to North Wilkes High School. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces while meeting several new ones.

As a school leader, I believe in utilizing the power of positive relationships, upholding and exceeding high expectations, and taking pride in our school. I look forward to forging strong relationships and upholding the strong tradition of success at North Wilkes High School.

Go Vikings!
